ブラッシング指導は英語で、toothbrushing instructions 、略してTBIと言います。「ブラッシング指導をした。」とカルテに記載するときは、

“Gave TBI.”　　とか　　“TBI given.”

と略して書くことが多いです。

アメリカの歯学部でもあらゆるブラッシング法を習いますが、患者さんにはバス法Bass methodをほとんどの場合、教えます。

Doctor or hygienist:  “Please use a soft, nylon toothbrush.  No medium or hard toothbrushes.”

ドクターもしくは歯科衛生士：　「柔らかいナイロン製の歯ブラシを使って下さい。普通とか、硬めではだめです。」

Patient:  “Why do I have to use a soft toothbrush?”

患者さん：　「何故柔らかい歯ブラシを使うのですか。」

Doctor or hygienist:　　“A soft toothbrush is gentle to the gums.”

ドクターもしくは歯科衛生士：「柔らかい歯ブラシは歯茎にやさしいですから。」

と、まず歯ブラシの種類から話します。

Doctor or hygienist:  “Place the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle towards the gum line.”

ドクターもしくは歯科衛生士：「歯ブラシを歯茎に向けて４５°の角度に当てて下さい。」

Doctor or hygienist:  “Please use small, vibrating strokes for 3 to 5 seconds on each tooth.  Make sure you follow the curvature (contourでもいいです) of the tooth.”

ドクターもしくは歯科衛生士：「１本の歯につき３秒から５秒くらい小刻みにブラシを働かせて下さい。その際、歯のカーブに沿って歯ブラシを動かして下さい。」

Doctor or hygienist:  “Make sure you overlap the tooth when you move around from 1 tooth to the other so that you don’t miss any spot.”

ドクターもしくは歯科衛生士：「歯から歯へ移るとき、同じ箇所を２回磨くことになるかもしれませんが、磨き残しがないようにするためにそれがいい方法です。」

Doctor or hygienist:  “Make sure you use your finger pressure only.  Light pressure is enough.”

ドクターもしくは歯科衛生士：「力は指先だけからで十分です。つまり、本当に軽く歯ブラシを持って下さい。」

Doctor or hygienist:  “You should decide on a order like brushing the upper cheek and lip area first, then the chewing surface, and finally the inside. Don’t jump around. This should take 1 minute. Please do the same for the lower—brush on the cheek and lip area, chewing surface, and then the inside. This should take another minute.”

ドクターもしくは歯科衛生士：「順序を決めて下さい。例えば、表側を全部磨いてから、咬む表面、そして裏側に移動して下さい。あちこち動かないで、歯がならんでいる通りにブラシして下さい。上の歯が終わったら下の歯を同じように磨いて下さい。上の歯で１分、下の歯で１分かかりますので、合計２分かかります。」
